The Washington Post. In 2013 he won the
Pulitzer Prize for criticism. He was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in
2012 (criticism) and
2000 (editorial writing). In 2006, he was an
Emmy Award nomineeand won the Cine Golden Eagle for
video work exploring the role of oil money in the politics of Azerbaijan. He has served as classical music critic of the
Detroit News, the
St. Louis Post-Dispatch and
The Washington Post (1999-2001), and is a regular reviewer for
Gramophone, a former contributing editor to
The New Republic and a frequent contributor to
Opera News, among other publications.
