Ann Owens

OPERA America
Field Consultant

Ann Owens is a performing arts professional whose breadth of management experience and long association with the Houston Grand Opera (HGO) inspires her current work as a performing arts consultant.  From 2006 to 2010 Owens was Executive Director of HGO, where she served as chief operating officer, oversaw the work of the senior management team, and played a critical role in the strategic development of the organization in support of its artistic and fiscal goals. Owens led HGO management’s team in collective bargaining negotiations and served on a national industry-wide multi-employer integrated media bargaining unit.  She also served as HGO management’s representative in the execution of a comprehensive restructuring of the HGO Board’s governance, including the revision of its bylaws, a transition from a large Trustee-based governing body to a smaller Board of Directors governing body, and the creation and implementation of a Governance Committee structure.  Prior positions at HGO included Artistic Administrator, Producing Director and Interim General Director.  Owens has served as an adjudicator for the Dallas Opera Guild Career Development competition, Concorso Voci Verdiani, the Richard Tucker Awards and the ARIA Awards. Since her move to Atlanta in 2010, Owens has enjoyed working with opera companies on various projects, including intellectual property rights negotiations, commission negotiations, electronic media activity, collective bargaining, planning, and leadership transition.
